THE MAN BEHIND THE JOCK

I’ve reached an age where I’ve realised I’m never going to stop being curious. I still like gaming, I’m fascinated by AI, and I’m forever wondering whether I could learn something new, build something myself or turn a daft idea into something worthwhile.

The problem is I’m usually learning all of this while doing it. I’m not a tech guru, professional gamer or AI expert. I’m a bloke reading the instructions, pressing the wrong button, swearing at the screen, eventually figuring it out- and wondering how many other people are doing exactly the same thing.

That’s really what The Jovial Jock is about. Having a go, learning as I go, sharing what genuinely works and being equally willing to share what doesn’t. Whether it’s a game, a bit of gear, some new AI tool or a skill I’m trying to learn, you’ll get the experience from someone figuring it out in the real world, cock-ups included.

I happen to be doing all this in my 50s, but this isn’t a website about getting old, if anything it’s about refusing to stop being interested. I’ve got a job, a family and a normal life competing for my time, so when I try something new I want to know whether it’s genuinely useful, enjoyable or worth the money, not whether somebody on the internet has been paid to tell me it’s useful.

So pull up a chair, grab a coffee and have a look around. Some things will work and some probably won’t, occasionally I’ll make a spectacular arse of something but I’ll keep having a go and if something I learn along the way saves you a bit of time, money or frustration then even better.
